More..........

Our stay in Kakadu is sadly over but we covered 5 of the seven regions whilst we were there, East aligator river, Nourlangie, Mary river, Jabiru and Yellow waters, not in that order though. We went to Ubirr and were fascinated again by the rich display of Aboriginal art work on the rocks. We took in the views at Ubirr which were quite different to Nourlangie's Gunwarrdewarrde out look. Ubirr looks toward Arnhemland to the east and across the wet lands to the west. We looked into the process in getting a permit to visit Oenpelli but after seeing Cahills crossing decided against it. The current of that crossing was unbelievable and the rate in which the water climbed was incredible. Not to mention the two 4 meter crocs that were hanging around!!!

We also took a drive to Jim Jim falls (twin falls road still closed due to water) 60 k dirt but really worth the trip to stand in the magnificent gorge at the bottom of the falls. It was only 900 meters from the car park to the waterfall but all scrambling over rocks... took approximately 45 min each way. Pip did really well although needed a lift up some of the rocks. No good for the grey nomads.. a much younger group out there.

We took an evening boat tour of yellow waters wetlands. So many birds, even saw a couple of Jabiru. There were lots of estuarine crocs and quite a number of wild horses which was a bit surprising. One thing we noticed in Kakadu was the absence of Kangaroo and wallaby??? not even a deady!!

On our way out of Kakadu we decided to take a 80 klm detour and check out Gunlom falls.......... this was the start of our misadventure for the day. Mike wasn't keen to go on the dirt with the van as it didn't look too good a road but a nice big pout from moi!  and we were on our way..... corrugation after corrugation after corrugation...deep dip after dip after rough rocks and more rocks, I was not in the good books. 3 hrs to drive in and out. I drove out, I think Mike thought that would be my punishment but I actually didn't mind and think I did a better job hahahahahahaha. The falls and plunge pool were beautiful by the way.. not sure if I would take the van again though.

not so clean after Gunlom..

At Gunlom.. messy bulldust

Next we headed to Edith falls another place I so badly wanted to stay at. hhmmmm well I rang ahead to the national park camp ground to see if there were sites available. Yes ! 1 only left and after explaining the size of our van asked kindly, "please can you hold it (normally you can book these sites)" He said yes it was a done deal until... we arrive and the site is for a 2 man tent. What did he not get about "6 meter long van!!!. A quick look at the lovely falls and no Pics as the camera battery had gone too low. We were on our way away from the lovely Edith falls. I start ringing around for accom as there are no free camps for over 100 klms ( just our luck) and all the 6 caravan parks I rang in Katherine 60 klms away were FULL. Well alls well that ends well we are at Manabulloo homestead a great little park 10 klms outside Katherine on the Victoria Hwy. Tomorrow we pack up again and head to Victoria bridge on our way to "Destination BROOME".
